“CLASSIC RACE SERIES” RULES – 2010/11 Series Aim: To provide a race series for drivers who compete with classic saloon and GT vehicles manufactured prior to 31 December 1978. The series is designed to promote close but clean racing with well presented classic cars that the public can relate to. No contact or non sportsmanlike racing will be condoned and any competitor who fails to adhere to this will be excluded from the series. Through sponsorship the series also promotes and encourages social activity, giving competitors the ability to mix at race events and have some fun. Series Race Meetings: The Series consists of race meetings held at Manfeild and Taupo each year and competitors will be advised of the race dates. Total points over all rounds will be used for calculating the championship. Organisers may introduce double points rounds at times in a given year at their discretion. Wherever possible an award ceremony will be conducted at the end of each race season. Racing Format: The Classic Race Series will run the following race format for each Group. - Official practice - Scratch race (fastest first, slowest last, assessed on practice times) - Handicap (assessed on fastest individual lap times from 1st race) - Handicap (assessed on fastest individual lap times from 1st handicap) If a fourth race is provided, a handicap format will apply. If you fail to finish any race but intend to start the next the organisers will re-grid you in an appropriate grid position Classes: The series will comprise of three engine capacity based classes: 0 – 1600cc 1601 – 2500cc 2501cc & over Points: Competitors will compete for points which will be awarded for class and outright race placings at each round of the series. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters in each class and for the overall series at the end of each year. The “FMG Classic Race Winner” cup will be awarded to the competitor who is declared the overall series winner. The cup will be engraved annually and is to be returned to the organisers at the end of each year. Circuit Lap Time Eligibility: Lap time eligibility will be imposed, both a minimum and a maximum lap time bar applies. Speed bars for each circuit are set based on past Manfeild history only. To be eligible to race, series cars must not lap Manfeild race circuit faster than 1 minute 22 seconds nor slower than 1 minute 34 seconds in dry conditions. The Manfeild speed bar is deemed to be indicative of speeds at other circuits, therefore no other bars will apply. The committee reserves the right to adjust speed bars up or down as required at the end of each season. There will be penalties for breaking the published speed bar during a race by more than 0.5 seconds. The penalty for a first breach will be by adding 20 seconds to the drivers race time. The penalty for a second breach will be by adding 30 seconds to the drivers race time. The penalty for a third breach will result in exclusion from the series, at the sole discretion of the series Committee. Driver Eligibility: Drivers must hold a National Race Licence and be members of a Car Club affiliated to Motorsport New Zealand. All drivers must be registered and paid up members of the series. A $25 per annum registration fee applies. Payment of the registration fee means you agree and will abide with these rules. Safety: All vehicles must conform with the NZ Motorsport Manual under Appendix 2 Schedule A sections 4 and 5. All vehicles must have approved roll protection as defined in the Motorsport NZ Manual under Appendix 2 Schedule A. Vehicle Eligibility: Final eligibility to compete in the series will be determined by the Series Committee, whose decision will be final. Vehicles: Classic saloons and GT’s manufactured up to 31 December 1978. Cars produced after this date may be eligible if they represent the same pre 1978 model and specification. (Competitors are encouraged to contact the committee prior to buying or building a vehicle to race with the series to avoid any issues). Numbers of identical saloon car models may be limited in order to maintain as much variety as possible. Exterior: The vehicle must be smartly maintained with all exterior trim in place. No non-period aerodynamic aids or guard flares are permitted. Interior: The vehicle interior must be clean and tidily painted with dashboards and door panels intact. Front seats may be replaced with recognised competition seats. Engines: Original engines may be substituted for another engine but only one with the same number of cylinders as originally produced and only from the same manufacturer’s range and made during the same era. If you are unsure, please consult the organisers to ensure eligibility. All other internal engine modifications are free except you must retain carburettors (you are free to upgrade these) if the car was originally produced with them or original fuel injection systems. . Turbo and supercharged vehicles are allowed if they were original equipment. Engines may be modified but Turbocharger and Supercharger units may not be substituted for later model units. An equivalence factor of 1.7 will be used to determine engine capacity. Rotary powered vehicles are allowed but are restricted to the original version of engine as fitted when new to the vehicle range. Eg Mazda RX2 - 12A, RX3 - 10A or 12A, RX7 S1 - 12A, RX4 - 13B. Engines may be modified but must remain carburetted. An equivalence factor of 1.8 will be used to determine engine capacity. Gearbox: Gearboxes are free except no sequential systems may be used. Clutch: ) Differential: ) All are free Suspension: ) Brakes: ) Wheels: Wheels can only be increased two inches in diameter from the original size. Tyres: Any tyres, except slicks, are allowed. Aspect ratio is restricted to 50 series minimum. Series Entry: Acceptance of cars to race with the series will be decided exclusively by the series committee, whose decision will be final. Sponsor Requirements: The series is sponsored by Fujitsu Heat Pumps. All cars MUST race with a sponsor supplied “Fujitsu Heat Pumps” windscreen banner at all series organised events. One windscreen banner will be supplied to each competitor at the beginning of each season. Failure to comply will result in exclusion from the series. If competitors choose to remove the banner during the year it will be necessary to purchase a replacement from the organiser at your own cost if you wish to race at subsequent “Fujitsu Heat Pumps Classic Race” events.
